Call for Submissions

The Just Watch Me! Berlin Screeningroom

Submissions are now closed.

Canadian distributors, sales agents and rights holders are invited to submit content to this pilot initiative, a television sales event at the Canadian Embassy in Berlin designed to promote sales of Canadian film and television content to German broadcasters and to broaden contacts in the German market.

The initiative was created by the Embassy of Canada in Berlin and "Just Watch Me!" in collaboration with the Department of Canadian Heritage (Trade Routes program), the Canadian Television Fund and the Canadian Film and Television Production Association (CFTPA).

Buyers and programmers from German television networks will be invited to the Embassy to attend a special screening of promotional clips for Canadian films and television programs that will be selected through a juried process.

How to submit your content:

All types of content that are deemed suitable for broadcast are eligible. This may include but isn't limited to feature length and short film, documentary, animation, dramatic or reality-based television series, children's or arts programming. There is no limit to the production year of the content, however preference is given to content that is relevant to current market tastes.

Please register by clicking the "REGISTER NOW!" button to the left of this page. After approval and verification, you will be able to log in to this site, granting you access to your online submission profile. You will be asked to complete your contact details and project information, and to upload your promotional trailers (max 2 minutes each) and promotional kits in the specified format. There will be a maximum of THREE entries per production company.

You will have full access to your profile right up until the closing deadline to manage your submission. Access to your submission will close at 17:00 [EST] on Monday, 15th February 2010.

If selected, you will also be asked to send hard copies of your sell sheets, (one page), promotional pack/EPK, legal documentations and releases and 12 x DVD screeners of the project which will be made available to acquisitions personnel at the event.

Registration and submission is free. There is no cost to submit.

How your programme is selected:

Your submissions will be reviewed by an expert jury comprised of industry representatives from Canada and Germany. The jury will make their recommendations on the final one-hour program which will be presented to German buyers at the Canadian Embassy in Berlin.

Successful applicants will be notified on or after 22th February, 2010.

Selection criteria:

Applications will be assessed using the following criteria:

  1. The originality and production value of the creative material
  2. The commercial viability of the proposed project and its demonstrated appropriateness for the German/European marketplace
  3. The ability of the creative material to fit into the broader program being presented as one which shows the diversity and quality of Canadian content.

How your programme will be presented to buyers:

Only German buyers and recognized sales representatives will be invited to attend the event in person. Please take note that producers will not be invited to attend. If your content is selected to be screened at the event, you will have the following two options:

  1. If the producer/rights holder of the selected content already has sales representation, then their appointed sales agent will be invited to register for a nominal fee which will be used to offset costs associated with the event.

  1. Producers/rights holders who do not have sales representation or have non-exclusive representation will have the option to engage Century Street Distribution as their appointed sales representative for the German marketplace (and key European territories if available). The basic terms of this agreement are available here.
